About a Film: Persepolis (2007)

Interesting. I've heard about it from my friend that I shouldn't expect anything bright when I watched it. And yes, despite ir came as an animation, it's a dark story with a heavy story about Iran and how Iranian lived during the disputes within the country. The story begins with the portrayal of a young woman in the airport and wants to go to Teheran. Then, the story goes with the life story of the young woman, named Marjane Satrapi. It tells the story about her from her childhood until her adulthood. Her story as a child is quite...rough in a way, for me. It is usual for her to know that her families or neighbours are in jail or just come out from the jail. Moreover, she is quite knowledgeable about the politics around her country. It's just common for a child to know how the politics goes in the Iran and it seems the children can handle it in an usual way since it is in their daily life and they have to deal with it in daily basis. Yet! I'd love the way, Satrapi and Paronnaud presented the movie. Though, it shows about the hardness of living as Iranian, they make as not depressing as it can be and it makes me to absorb the story of movie easily, even I feel like it's a kind of fairy tale (well, maybe it's wrong for me to say it as a fairy tale, but that's my impression).

To think that this is autobiographical of one of the directors, Marjane Satrapi, I can see how personal this movie is. Living as an Iranian, whether in Iran or outside Iran, it's not an easy way to do. Wars in and outside Iran make everything difficult for every Iranian. They have dangerous lives in Iran and being degraded while outside Iran. Surely, this movie teaches me many things about Iranian and how the politics goes in the country. And it also interests me that the story about Iran and Iranian seems something that attracted many people to understand it (after watching Persepolis, I watched Argo, so yeah, that's why I conclude that 'attraction'). I'd even think that the Iran and Iranian, these days, is becoming magnet of attraction that might draws people's attention to learn about it. But, yes, they do have an interesting history to tell and Persepolis is one of the great example of it. It's not definitely for children, but it's a great recommendation for a movie buff. It's just...great!

(as usual, I put the trailer here)
